John W. Miller, 86, of Saluda, SC died Friday May 13, 2016 at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home in Newberry. Mr. Miller was born on February, 23, 1930 in Newberry, a son of the late Frank E. and Kate McCarty Miller. Following his retirement from Sloan Construction Co., he and his wife retired to the farm. They both enjoyed spending time fishing for catfish. He was a lifelong member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church. During his younger years, Mr. Miller played for the Newberry Mills baseball team in West End He is survived by his daughter, Beth (Toni) Miller of Saluda; son, Joel (Sophie) Miller of Ninety Six, grandchildren, Kobe, Reece and Grace; and siblings, Evangeline Rinderknecht of St. Clair FL, Docia Rash of Braymer MO, and Georgia Freeman of Rock Hill. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Judy Caldwell Miller; a son, Phillip Edward Miller; 5 sisters; and 2 brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May16, at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Leon Rawl and the Rev. Floyd Sides. Interment will follow at West End Cemetery.
