John Knox Ragsdale, Jr., age 80, of Daytona Beach, Fla. died Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Halifax Medical Center.
Born October 15, 1943 in Newberry, SC, he was the first-born child of the late John Knox Ragsdale, Sr. and Dorothy Cromer Ragsdale.
John graduated from the first class of Winnsboro High School in 1961 and received his bachelor's degree from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee in 1967. In 1969 he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army. He completed basic training in Fort Jackson, SC, and later served two years in Stratford, Germany.
He worked for many years as an accountant for public utility companies, ultimately retiring from Dominion Energy. He was a person of faith and a longtime member of the historic Salem Presbyterian Church in Blair, SC.
John is survived by his children, Tim Ragsdale of Columbia, SC, Vickie Anne Ragsdale of Dayton Beach, FL, William Ragsdale of Bradenton, FL, Daryl Ragsdale of Chapin, SC, 6 grandchildren, a sister, Karen Way of Wake Forest, NC, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Ted Ragsdale, and his daughter-in-law, Diane Ragsdale.
Graveside services with military honors will be conducted by Rev. Richard Hodges, at 12 Noon on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in Rosemont Cemetery.
