Johnny Howard Smith, 70, of Prosperity, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
Born on October 27, 1946 in Maryland, he was a son of the late Harold Howard Smith and Mary Helen Brunson Smith. He worked as a supervisor in Electrical and HVAC maintenance, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Mr. Smith was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church of Prosperity where he served as a Sunday School teacher of the Jimmy Counts Sunday School Class and as a member of the WARM and Steering Committee. He was always a caring person and gave back to his community through his volunteer services to many. He was always the smiling and laughing handy man. He loved the Carolina Gamecocks.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Martin Smith; children, Sally Farmer of Prosperity, Rusty Farmer (Anna) of Prosperity and Janet Davenport (Justin) of Silverstreet; grandchildren, Preston Farmer, Al Farmer, Noah Davenport and Hannah Davenport; brother, Richard Smith (Julie) of Simpsonville and nieces, Lindsey, Tori and Morgan.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College St., Newberry, SC.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 15 at Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity conducted by the Rev. Brian Rainwater.
Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
