On July 21, 2020, Jon Thomas May lost his battle with Leukemia while surrounded by his family.
Jon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Walker May; daughter, Michelle May Nalley (Tony); son, Jeffrey Thomas May; granddaughter, Morgan Rebecca Nalley, Esquire; grandson, Matthew Ray Nalley; and a special nephew (second son), Edward Allen Walker (Sharon), all of the greater Columbia/Chapin, SC area.
Jon was born in 1943 to a dairy farmer and his sophisticated New York City college educated wife in Middletown, NY. His parents, John Andrew May and Etta Peragallo May, moved to Hollywood, Florida when Jon, their only child, was 5. Jon graduated from Central Catholic High School (now St. Thomas Aquinas) in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida before earning his engineering degree at Georgia Tech.
As a young engineer, Jon took a job at the Talon Zipper Factory in Meadville, Pennsylvania, which ended up being the best professional decision Jon ever made. Shortly after he began at Talon, Jon met a young secretary named Mary who would quickly become the love of his life.
During Jon's career, he, Mary, and their children lived in various towns and states across the Southeast, always making new friends in their new homes. Jon's quick wit, easy conversation and contagious laughter meant it never took long to meet new friends. In 2005, Jon retired to spend more time with family and friends, travel the country with Mary, and slay fish.
Jon and Mary have been active members of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church since the mid-1980s. Jon remained a loyal Georgia Teck Ramblin' Wreck, through the good and bad, and cheered on the Pittsburgh Steelers alongside Mary, the biggest Steelers fan he knew.
Jon May was brilliant, kind, generous and patient, and we are all blessed to have had him in our lives. Jon May will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
