Obituary

Josiah Jefferson Warren (J.J. Warren), 91, passed away on July 13, 2017 in his home at the Heritage at Lowman in White Rock, SC. He and his wife Jean have resided here for the past 20 years. Jay was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Holly, NC for over 50 years. He was active in his church, serving as President of the Pastor-Parish Committee and the Wesley Sunday School class. He served on the Administrative Board, the Boy Scout Committee, and was the Adult Sunday School Coordinator. After relocating to White Rock, SC, Jay and his wife became members of Union United Methodist Church, Irmo, SC and then attended services at the New Life Chapel located on the Heritage at Lowman campus. He served two years in the US Navy in World War II on the U.S.S. Atlanta. After the war, he worked at Good Year Tire and Rubber Company where he met Jean Howard. They were married on September 20, 1947 and were happily married for 69 years. In 1948, he began working for Ralston Purina Company in Charlotte, NC where he was employed for 38 years. He retired as area controller in 1986. Some hobbies Jay enjoyed were carpentry, gardening, and spending time with his family at the lake having fish fries. He enjoyed taking care of people. He provided his widowed sister-in-law a home in the basement of their home, and helped family relocate on numerous occasions. He and Jean enjoyed traveling, often inviting Jean's two widowed sisters to join them. Jay and Jean also opened their home to his nephew during his high school years. Jay was the last surviving child of the late George and Josephine Warren of Govan, SC. He was the next to the youngest of 7 boys and 1 girl. Jay is survived by his wife, Jean Howard Warren; his son, Jeff Warren and his wife Doris of Chapin, SC; and his daughter, Vicki Warren Baddour and her husband, Jamie of Pinehurst, NC. He has 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 3:00 PM in the New Life Chapel at the Heritage at Lowman by the Rev. Dr. Karen Young. A Celebration of Life reception will follow. Retired Methodist Minister H.L. Talbert will preside at a graveside service in Mt. Holly, NC which will occur upon the passing of his beloved wife, Jean.
