Joye Fellers Senn, 94, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2022 at Springfield Place.
Born on March 18, 1928 in Newberry, SC, she was a daughter of the late Sheriff Thomas "Tom" and Mattie Lovelace Fellers.
Joye, a proud Newberrian, attended local schools and graduated from Newberry High School. She was a lifelong member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer who actively worshipped and listened to Mr. Huger Caughman, Jr. play the organ until her health no longer permitted. Joye worked as a secretary for Newberry Mills and then SC Department of Employment and Workforce until retirement.
A true Southern lady, Joye delighted in the simple things of life. She basked in the fruits of her labor including beautiful flower gardens, generations-old plants propagated to share, and green grass she only reluctantly stopped mowing in her 80s. Her home, immaculately kept, was the source for hot cheese straws, fig preserves, "Dinner in a Dish" and Friday night pound cakes. If you needed something, Joye had it because she started stockpiling household items well before it became trendy. She looked forward to cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks, weekly beauty shop appointments and playing cards each Sunday for more than 40 years. In her sister-in-law, the late Virginia "Jenny" Jones, she found her best friend. This duo did everything together and ended each day with an 8 PM phone call.
Joye married the late Charles E. Senn, and together they welcomed a son, Charles "Charlie" Fellers Senn. She treasured all that came with motherhood and had a special place in her heart for the antics of little boys. Later in life, she asked to be called "Nanny" as she graciously welcomed three granddaughters into her family. Joye also took great interest and pride in her extended family and close friends and savored each time someone "remembered an old widow" as she would say!
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gwen and Charlie Senn; granddaughters Candice Suber (Phifer), Lacey Craven (Kyle), and Lori Beth Charlton (Chris); great-grandchildren Shay, Erica, and Kylan Johnson, Liza and Coleman Craven, and Cora and Sterling Charlton; and a dachshund "Sunny" that snuck into her heart. Joye is also survived by her brother, Tommy M. Fellers (Helen) as well as nieces and nephews, Joey Nicosia, Anna Marie Nicosia (Jerry Haltiwanger), Mary Sue Green (John), Harriet Guy (Todd), Susan Riser (Bill), Kathy Dennis (Von), and Andy Senn.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Marie Nicosia and Mary Louise Fellers.
A graveside funeral service will be held on July 6, 2022 at 10:30 AM in Rosemont Cemetery. Following the service, the family will receive visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Senn.
Pallbearers will be Bill Riser, Dr. Oscar Lovelace, Michael Mills, Daniel Werts, Mike Willingham, and Jerry Willingham.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Springfield Place and Caroline Tilghman of Crescent Hospice.
