Judith "Judi" Elaine Boland Wessinger of Little Mountain, SC went to be with our Lord Jesus on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at her home.
Born on February 18, 1947 in Peak, SC to the late Virgil and Frances Boland, Judi grew up in the Wheeland community around Little Mountain. She graduated Mid-Carolina High School and attended Newberry College and the University of South Carolina. Following her retirement from VC Summer Nuclear Plant, she dedicated much of her time to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she was an organist, sang in the choir, and participated in many of the church's organizations, including The Happy Mountaineers. Judi volunteered with Manna House and was always ready to help anyone who needed her.
She loved all of her family and especially doted on her grandchildren. She treasured her time traveling with her children and also with her many friends.
Always the life of the party, Judi will be remembered for her infectious smile, the ability to laugh at just about anything, and her warm, caring spirit. A voracious reader, crossword puzzle solver, and Jeopardy watcher, she instilled an affinity for learning in her children. Her love of family was a central part of who she was, whether it was caring for the sick, cooking family meals, going on nature walks with her grandchildren, or myriad other ways she showed her love and affection. She loved music and rooting for the Gamecocks, especially the Lady Gamecocks basketball team.
Judi was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister and friend to so many.
She is survived by her husband, Danny "Wheat" Wessinger; children, Mandy Halek (Joseph) of Charleston, SC, Reed Smith (Jennifer) of Rolesville, NC, and Stephanie Farnell (Eric) of Clayton, NC; grandchildren, Emma and Evan Smith and Adeline and Margo Farnell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Leon Boland, Bonni Barnes, Charles H. "CB" Boland, and David I. "Shank" Boland.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 3 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, conducted by Pastor James F. Shealy.
Out of an abundance of caution due to the current Covid situation and desire to limit potential spread to those who are more vulnerable, Judi's family is asking for everyone to please refrain from visiting the home. There has been an outpouring of love and support through phone calls, emails, texts, letters, and all the many ways we communicate these days, which is greatly appreciated and which would have made Judi very happy. Please continue to support the family through these methods and respect their desire to minimize direct contact at this time.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 186 Little Mountain, SC 29075.
Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
