Judy Sweetland Hudgens, 84, of Newberry died Tuesday March 7, 2023 at Prisma Health Richland.

Born on May 18, 1938 in Evansville, IN, she was the daughter of the late Dean Clarence and Evelyn Witowack Sweetland.

In 1965, Judy married Joseph "Joe" Walter Hudgens, Jr. and together, the two created a beautiful life. They moved to Newberry where Judy became active in the church, numerous social groups, volunteering, and the Opera House. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Newberry.

Judy's passions revolved around dogs, cooking homemade meals, hosting friends, word puzzles, the beach, and card games.

She is survived by her daughters, Toni Hudgens Simmons (Jim) of Apex, NC and Celena Hudgens Burnett (Keith) of Charlotte, NC; and grandchildren, Amber Simmons and Ashley Simmons. She is also survived by her beloved dog and faithful companion, Chloe.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Lowell Dean Sweetland.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Albert Allen on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Newberry.
