Julia Elizabeth Sanders Burgess 87 widow of Harry Nelson Burgess passed peacefully on July 27 2015 at The Hospice House of Greenwood. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Hugh Bickley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born September 17 1927 in Silverstreet she was the daughter of William Henry Sanders and Ellen Watkins Sanders. She was a graduate of Newberry College Mrs. Burgess was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a long time member of the United Methodist Women the Silver and Gold Seniors and the Charles Senn Sunday School Class. She also held a number of positions within the church over the years as well as served on the Administrative Council of the church for many years. She had a passion for growing both vegetables and flowers and loved nature especially birds and other wildlife. She was an excellent cook and some say made the best buttermilk biscuits around. She was a caring loving and dedicated mother who loved her family deeply. She was a true servant of God who also loved her church family deeply. She is survived by daughters Harriet (Ron) Stevenson Jewel Burgess and Sheryl Burgess and a son Hal (Amy) Burgess. She is also survived by three grandchildren Logan Burgess (Meghan) Corey Burgess and Meg Burgess and step-grandson Joey Young (Jody). Survivors also include two beautiful great-grandchildren Calleigh and Eliza Burgess who were her pride and joy.
