Obituary

Kathleen Mims Summer 66 of 1951 Cromer Lane Newberry wife of David Beam Summer died Tuesday September 27 2005 at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center.Mrs. Summer was born in Charleston a daughter of the late Solomon and Eleanor Watts Mims. She attened North Charleston High School and the College of Charleston. She was the organizer and first director of the Newberry Academy Kindergarten in 1967. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and throughout the years she taught Week-Day Church School Vacation Church School Sunday School and First Year Catechism Class. She served on various committees of the church served on the Congregational Council several times serving as Secretary Vice-Chairman. She also served as Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee and served on the Building in Grace Growing to Serve Committee. She was a long time member and Past President of the Newberry Garden Club and she was a charter member of the Carolinian Society having served as Chairman of the Board of Governors.Mrs. Summer is survived by her husband of the home; a daughter and son-in-law Eleanor Lucille S. and Robin Hefka of Mt. Pleasant; two sons and a daughter-in-law David Beam (Jr.) and Anne Summer of Charleston and William Carroll Summer II of Greer; one sister and brother-in-law Nancy-Louise and Ronald B. Rowland of Folly Beach; seven grandchildren David Beam Summer III Emily Newman Summer Margaret Louise Hefka Frances Elizabeth Hefka Robert Riford Hefka William Riley Briggs Summer and Robert Davis Summer; nieces and nephews; and beloved and cherished friends.Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Thursday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Steven Counts. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to the Growing in Grace Building Fund o the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer PO Box 382 Newberry SC 29108.Active pallbearers were J.
