Obituary

Kay Senn Long 60 of Island Ford Road Silverstreet died Saturday April 14 2012 at the Lexington Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Monday April 16 at 4:30 PM in Smyrna Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Scott Hill. Interment did follow in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Born in Newberry on April 24 1951 she was a daughter of Walter W. and Ella Mae Noffz Senn. Kay was a graduate of Presbyterian College and received her Masters degree from the University of South Carolina. She was a teacher at Newberry High School her entire career and during those years was deeply involved with the students. She served as a sponsor or other support for numerous extra curricular activities and was very much a part of the Newberry High School athletic program. Ms. Long was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church where she was also a member of the Lydia Circle. Kay also participated in church mission trips to Haiti Peru and Cherokee. In addition to her parents of Silverstreet Kay is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Creighton Jones of Myrtle Beach nieces Amber Leonard of Bristol TN and Lara Jones of Myrtle Beach; great nieces Maddie Poston and Kinley Leonard; great nephew Joel Poston; aunts uncles cousins and many friends and loved ones. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Smyrna Presbyterian Church. Memorials are suggested to Smyrna Presbyterian Church 32 Smyrna Road Newberry SC 29108 or to the American Cancer Society c/o Helen Beebe 181 Trailers Trail Leesville SC 29070. The family expresses sincere appreciation to Dr. Steve Madden and his staff as well as to the oncology floor of Lexington Medical Center for their care and support of Kay and her family.
