Kevin Schmidt, 69, of Newberry, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. He was born March 8, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Helmer and Kathleen Kennedy Schmidt. As long as his health permitted, Mr. Schmidt owned and operated a number of gift and flower shops. He opened his first shops at the age of 18 while still in high school. He was also gifted as a flower designer and enjoyed designing for Fisher Flowers in Atlantic City, N.J. Additionally, he and his wife owned a horse farm near the Atlantic City race track. Kevin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy Palermo; his sister, June Kastner of Prosperity; and his nephew, Joseph Kastner (Jessica). In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John Schmidt. Kevin's family request that memorials be made to Smyrna Gospel Ministries, 750 Smyrna Road, Welch, WV 24801.
