Obituary

Lambert Scott Riser, 80, of Newberry County, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday morning, December 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. The angels certainly rejoiced at his arrival.

Affectionately known as "Papa", and was known by many as Scott, came into this world on August 3, 1944, in Whitmire, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Thomas Lambert and Julia Reames Riser.

Scott grew up in Newberry County, went to Newberry County Schools and attended Newberry College. He then joined the National Guard and served his country faithfully for seven years. He later went on to working in construction and owning his own business as a brick mason.

Scott greatest passion was serving the Lord at his church, Whitmire First Baptist. Where he was a dedicated lifelong member and Deacon. He was also a member of the church's choir, taught Sunday School classes, and was the Youth Leader for many years. Scott was also a member of N.A.M.I, South Carolina Forestry Association and would often volunteer his time reading to the third and fifth grade students at Whitmire Community School. He also had a passion for dove hunting and fishing. Just about anything involving the outdoors was a treasure to him, especially when he was shooting his guns.

Above all his greatest treasure and blessings were his family, whom he loved and cared for dearly. He loved each and every one of them unconditionally. Donice was the love of his life, while his son and grandchildren held that special place close in his heart.

Scott had the purest heart. He never complained, even after he got sick, he was the definition of humble, selfless, loving, and kind. He was the person most people can only try to be. The world is a lot less bright without his smile.

He survived by his wife of 55 years, Donice King Riser; his son, Travis Scott Riser (Christy) of Newberry; grandchildren, Jacqueline Riser Woodard (Ian), Julia Christina Riser (Dylan), Joshua Samuel Riser all of Newberry; and his precious great-grandson, Aiden Scott Woodard.

He also had many others he would call his "kids and grandkids" who affectionately called him "Papa" and he loved them as if they were his own.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Whitmire First Baptist Church. Officiated by Rev. Jarrod King. Interment will follow in the Whitmire Cemetery.
