Obituary

Lana Orendorff Brown, 77, of Newberry, died on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born on December 10, 1944 in Savannah GA, a daughter of the late Gladys Orendorff and Jacob P. "Dick" Orendorff, Sr. Lana worked for a number of years as a secretary for Georgia Pacific. During this time, she caught the eye of one of the businessmen there and despite his best efforts she refused to go out with him. On his fourth attempt, she said yes to a date. She and Don Brown were married for 49 years, building a life, a home, and a family, together. Lana later became a mail carrier and retired after 30 years from the United States Postal Service. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and participated in many of the church opportunities including the United Methodist Women's Circles. She was also a member of the Newberry Opera House Guild and the Midstate Dove and Quail Club. She was active in her community, joining in festivities, supporting local restaurants and merchants, and sharing time with her neighbors and friends. She was known for her warm smile, caring attitude, and generous hugs and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sons, Donald A. Brown, Jr. (Janna) of Newberry and Jacob Brown of Clemson; granddaughter, Carolina Grace Brown; brother, Jacob P. Orendorff, Jr. (Marie) of Brunswick, GA; niece, Ozella George of Wilmington Island, GA; nephew, Michael Britt (Julie) of Atlanta, GA; and life-long friends, Charlotte Haygreen and her late husband, Jim. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald A. Brown, Sr.; sisters, Esther Moore and Margaret Britt; and niece, Marsha Haupt. A Celebration of Life reception will be held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Saturday, January 8, 2021 at the Newberry Country Club, 414 Country Club Rd. A time of remembrance will begin approximately at 3:30 PM. Graveside funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Joe Long on Sunday, January 9 at 2:00 PM at Newberry Memorial Gardens, 15127 CR Koon Hwy. Pallbearers will be Michael Britt, Kevin Clamp, Joey Nicosia, Brian Franklin, Tim Polen, Sean Pomeroy, Earl Alford, Hunter Sharp, and Brett Dubose. Honorary pallbearers will be the Newberry Opera House Guild and Lana's friends from Half Full. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Central United Methodist Church, PO Box 67, Newberry, SC 29108; Newberry Opera House, 1201 McKibben St., Newberry SC 29108 or the Midstate Dove and Quail Club c/o Linda Knight, 1148 Airport Road, Newberry, SC 29108 or a charity of your choosing.
