Larry E. Hummel, age 72, of Prosperity, SC died October 4, 2023 at his home.

Born September 3, 1951 in Titusville, PA, he was a son of the late Harold and Miriam Huber Hummel.

Larry graduated from Randolph East Mead High School in 1969. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving as an aviation electronics technician in Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Oriskany from June 1971 to December 1971 and May 1972 to March 1973, which was the longest and last combat tour for the Oriskany in Vietnam waters. He completed his tour of duty in Jacksonville, Florida as an Avionics Instructor, receiving an honorable discharge as a Petty Officer 1st Class in November 1977 and serving a total of 8 years. He was extremely proud of his service.

After his military service, Larry worked for 30 years as an HVAC and Plumbing technician, first in Pennsylvania, then Florida. He retired from Q & Q Inc. of Lakeland FL.

Larry will be remembered for his uncommon kindness and for being a great Daddy.

He is survived by his daughters from his first marriage, Yvonne Hickey (Lonnie) of Cincinnati, OH and Melissa Sanders (Kenny) of Prosperity SC; sisters Kathy Huber (Gary) of Broadalbin NY and Lynn Hummel of Guys Mills, PA; a brother, Bruce Hummel (Deb) of Mechanicstown, OH; 4 grandchildren; 4 nephews; 1 niece and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Bennett) Hummel who he married May 23, 1991. She died on March 3, 2018 while they were living in Lakeland FL.

A graveside service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Black Ash Cemetery in Guys Mills, PA.
