L.E. "Bill" Gatlin Jr. 86 of 1209 Drayton St. Newberry died Saturday November 08 2003 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gatlin was born on June 25 1917 in Greenwood County a son of the late Luther E. and Eunice Boggera Gatlin. He was a 1943 Textile Engineering graduate of Clemson College and he was the Vice President and Plant Manager of Newberry Mills before his retirement. He was a member of O'Neal St. United Methodist Church and a member of the Newberry Rotary Club. Mr. Gatlin is survived by his wife Rose Bodie Gatlin of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law Milton A and Marla S Gatlin of Greer and L.E. "Ed" Gatlin III of Clemson; two sister Audrey Gatlin of Edgefield and Betty Lockwood of Yarmouth ME; two brothers Keith Gatlin of Rockhill and Curtis Gatlin of Silver Springs MD; six grandchildren Drew Gatlin of Greenwood Sanders Gatlin of Seneca Miranda Gatlin of Atlanta GA Angie Taylor of Columbia Luke Gatlin of Rockhill and Rosemary Arthur of Charlotte; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services for L.E. "Bill" Gatlin Jr. will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday at O'Neal St. United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kem Thomas. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
