Leora Hendrix Walker went to be with the Lord on June 23 2004. She was born on August 24 1925 to Eula and Marcus Hendrix in Newberry.Leora was one of ten children. In 1943 she left home at 18 years old to become the office manager of the Western Union office in Georgetown. There she assisted in delivering important telegraph messages to President Roosevelt during the war. It was here that she met her future husband Charles V. Walker from Omaha NE. Together they produced three during their 53-year marriage. Passionate about her service for the Lord she taught Sunday school at Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Havasu City AZ for over 20 years. She retired from teaching upon her diagnosis with cancer in May of 2003.Leora is predeceased in death by her husband Charles: sister Corinne Merritt; and brother Clarence Dennis and survived by daughters Candice Chase and husband Eric Cheryl Palmer and husband Bill; son Charles F. Walker and wife Mary; grandchildren Aaron Brian Kevin Nicole and Jessica; brothers Harold Hendrix and Boyd Hendrix; and sisters Mae Wiehrs Martha Bowers Lillian Bouknight Betty Willingham and Fronie Chaney.Funeral services for Leora Hendrix Walker were conducted at Calvary Baptist Church on Monday June 28 2004. Gravesides funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday July 1 2004 in Trinity United Methodist Church in Newberry.Memorials may be made in Leora's name to Calvary Baptist Church 1605 S.
