Leroy "LC" Counts Pugh, Jr., age 85 of Whitmire, died Sunday, January 22, 2023 at his home. He was a son of the late Leroy C. Pugh, Sr. and Alda Rae Hawkins Pugh.

Mr. Pugh was a big presence in stature, intellect, and personality. He had a brilliant mind and could see a problem and fix just about anything. He was revered in his work in the textile industry as a screen printer. Later, in the 1980's, he and wife Mary, started a flower shop. Like many things, he figured out the process and became an expert. In addition to drawing the plans for the family home in Whitmire, he also planned and built his own cabin in the mountains, reading the local codes and exceeding them.

He loved his family, including his furry family members, and instilled his intelligence and his love for fishing and enjoyment of the outdoors in his sons.

He is survived by his sons, Timothy Pugh (Tracy) of Whitmire and Mason Pugh of the home; a sister, Julia Kyzer of Columbia, a brother, Terry Pugh of Columbia; and grandsons, TJ Pugh, Justin Pugh, Mason Pugh, Jr., and Trey Martin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Alice Thomas Pugh and his daughter, Maria Lourae Pugh.

Graveside services will be held by Rev. Eddie Bledsoe at Whitmire Cemetery on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 25 at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry.
