Lila Lake Hawkins 97 formerly of Prosperity died Thursday December 22 2011 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born on July 30 1914 in Lexington County she was a daughter of the late Colie Eva Lindler and Frank Stillwell Lake. Mrs. Hawkins is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Hawkins had worked as a cook at Little Mountain Elementary School. She particularly enjoyed spending time gardening and canning. Most importantly she will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who placed family before herself. She was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church a long time member of the Missionary Society Swingers and Women of the ELCA. She is survived by her daughters June Grant of Little Mountain Kay (Carl) Lindler and Evelyn Mills both of Prosperity; daughter-in-law Dot Hawkins of Prosperity; eight grandchildren Linda Grant Barbara Grant Gary Lindler Cindy Derrick Ashley Amick Troy Hawkins Noel Hawkins and Brandon Hawkins; seven great grandchildren Brianna Lindler Daniel Shaw Justin McKean Dylan Derrick Courtney Amick A.J. Amick and Stephanie Floyd; great-great grandchild Thomas Christopher McKean. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Virgil Hawkins sons Thomas L. Tommy Hawkins and L. Stanley Hawkins brothers Floyd Franklin Everett and Joe Lake sister Myrtle Shealy; sons-in-law Gene Grant and Dean Mills; and daughter-in-law Mary Hawkins. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Funeral services were conducted 1:30 PM Saturday at Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church by the Rev. Christi Pursey. Interment did follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were grandchildren and honorary pallbearers were the Swingers. The family suggests memorials be made to Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church 2336 Mt.
