Lillian Brock Leavell 84 of Highway 121 Newberry died Saturday September 1 2012 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Leavell was born in Newberry on September 16 1927 a daughter of the late George Eugene Bud and Gertrude Craine Brock. Funeral services were at 4:00 PM Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Newberry conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Interment did follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation was in the church Social Hall from 2:30 3:30 PM Tuesday prior to the service. She graduated from Clemson University was a member of First Baptist Church and retired as foreman after 23 years with Allied Signal in Irmo. Mrs. Leavell served as President of the Newberry Business and Professional Women for 2 years of the American Legion Auxiliary for 4 years and of the Garden Club and Rose Society. She was Chairman of Agrifest for 2 years and in 1994 she organized the Newberry Chapter of AARP and served as President and District Coordinator for Newberry Fairfield Richland and Lexington County for 4 years. In addition Mrs. Leavell served with Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Advisory Board for the Council on Aging for 16 years was the County President for the Family and Community Leadership sponsored by the Clemson Extension for 15 years board member of the Clemson Extension FCL served on the Clemson Advisory and on the Newberry County Council Advisory Board for the Tourism Commission for 8 years. She was the first Silver Haired Legislative member serving two terms in Newberry County and was a volunteer at the Newberry Opera House. Mrs. Leavell received numerous recognitions including a citation from the National Guard Armory State Presidential Award from her work in BPW and Presidential Recognition for her work as a senior volunteer. She was a founder of the Road Runners Travel Club and dearly enjoyed her travels. Mrs. Leavell is survived her daughter Debra Debbie Leavell of Newberry; sister Margaret Brock Roton Bowers of Newberry; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Harold V. Leavell; and brothers Leroy Ed J.B. Dunn Billy Harold and Luther Brock. Pallbearers were Danny Roton Ricky Roton Jody Yarbrough Benji Leavell Bill Leavell and Travis Grimsley. Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Cromer Walt McLeod Lee Foster Jim Lander Ed Kyzer Robert Barber Henry Summer and Ed Lominack.
