Linda Gilliam Graham of Newberry, 63 years of age, died Saturday, March 21, 2020 at her home.
Born in Newberry, SC, on March 28, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Ray Gilliam, Sr. and Helen Wicker Gilliam and wife of Sammie C. Graham.
She grew up in Newberry, attended the Newberry schools graduating from Newberry High School and Newberry College. Additionally, she received her Master of Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina. Linda continued to support education and the Newberry schools through working as a teacher, first at Bush River Elementary School and then at Reuben Elementary School.
She was a member of Lewis United Methodist Church, the American Legion Axillary, AARP and the Chamber of Commerce. An avid reader, Linda was one who enjoyed holding her book and turning the pages as she read.
She adored all of her family but her grandson Noah held that extra special place in her heart.
Linda is survived by her husband, Sammie C. Graham; her children, Bryan P. Graham, Brandon C. Graham and Megan E. Graham all of Newberry; grandson, Noah E. Graham; brother, Larry F. Gilliam of Irmo; mother-in-law, Anne C. Graham of Newberry and sister-in-law, Mary Gilliam of Clinton.
In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by an infant son, Terry A. Graham, brother, Ernest Ray Gilliam, Jr. and sister, Maria Hellen Gilliam Frick.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. We ask those attending to be mindful of recommended COVID-19 procedures and to also follow the guidelines that Whitaker Funeral Home will provide at visitation.
A family only graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 25 in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
For the community to show support to this family but still adhere to the social distancing and mass gathering requirements the government has asked of us, we suggest that you drive to the cemetery on Wednesday, remain in your car during the service and drive by the grave site giving a wave to the family at conclusion of the service.
