Obituary

Lisa Heles Wilkerson, 49, of Irmo, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Prisma Health Parkridge. Born in Columbia SC, she was the daughter of Garey Davis Gibbs of Yemassee and sister to John Walter Gibbs, Jr. of Greenville. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of S.C. She was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church. Lisa worked as an Ombudsman and created the characters Mirella & Phillippe. She was also a wildlife photographer. Lisa worked for Palmetto GBA and then 15 years at Q2Administrators for a total of nearly 20 years in Medicare appeals as a communications consultant. She worked very closely with a small team of professionals who considered her both an indispensable colleague and a friend. As a wildlife enthusiast, she had a special fondness for birds - a fondness that led her to provide a bird sanctuary in her backyard. Much of her photography and art work encompassed birds and other wildlife. Always ready for travel, both locally and across South Carolina, Lisa was constantly in search of new wildlife subjects in new locations. She also enjoyed being involved as an active band mom with the Chapin Marching Band when her son Thomas was in High School. Lisa's faith was essential. She loved going to church, singing songs of praise, and learning about God. Her evening bible reading and prayer time with her husband were most precious to her. Her family was the main focus of her life. Lisa would do anything and everything for her family and was ever so passionate about family gatherings and photographic memories. She is survived by her husband, Len Irving Wilkerson; her parents; children: Jordan Renee Rye and Andrew Thomas Rye both of Irmo; step-daughter, Jordan Ruth Wilkerson of Irmo; brother, John Walter Gibbs, Jr. and his fiancée Katherine Hall of Greenville; aunt, Marian Elaine Davis of Columbia; and step-father, John Walter Gibbs, Sr. of Yemassee. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Dorothy Evelyn Davis and her grandfather, Marvin Benson Davis.
