IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois Cromer
Counts
May 8, 1939 – October 7, 2022
Lois Cromer Counts, 83, went into rest peacefully Friday, October 7, 2022.
Lois Ellen, as she was referred to by family, was the youngest of five children born to the late William Alston Cromer and Lois Johnson Cromer in Newberry, SC. Lois attended Newberry High School (Class of '57) and Newberry College until she met and married the late George Michael Counts, Sr. of Prosperity, SC. They resided in Aiken, SC for 57 years where they worked and raised their family.
Lois loved her family! She spent most of her life being a mom and a homemaker. To help send her children to college, she worked in banking for ten years. She enjoyed meeting and getting to know many residents of the Aiken, SC community in the former South Carolina National Bank, which later became Wachovia Bank. She also worked for a brief time at Palmetto Federal in Aiken. In retirement, Lois and George spent time at Lake Murray, visiting friends and family, and going dancing. Lois enjoyed taking care of her grand-children, recipe collecting, antique collecting and shopping.
Lois suffered a debilitating stroke in 2016, and has been in the care of her daughter for the past five years in the Atlanta GA area. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise of Johns Creek for the many years of kindness and care they provided to her. Special thanks to caregivers Connie, Sophia, Merryline, Felcia, as well as, Matt at the front desk for all his kindness.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Counts (Victor) Darrow and grandson, Jared Darrow, of Suwanee, GA; granddaughter, Katelyn Counts (Corey) Callahan and great-grandson Jonah Callahan, of Greenville, SC; and brother Robert Cromer of Peak, SC.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved son George Michael (Mike) Counts, Jr., and beloved daughter in law Cynthia Marsh (Cindy) Counts, sister Velma Tolbert, brothers Cary Cromer and Hoyt Cromer.
