Lola Mae Bates 85 of Newberry died Thursday March 25 2010 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Born in Greenville County on January 30 1925 she was the daughter of the late Luther A. and Ora Belle Wilson Morgan. She was predeceased by her husband Wilbur Otis Bates Sr. She was a former employee of Oakland Mills and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bates was a friend to all who knew her. She was a great mother to her children and a special "Maw" and "Granny" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children and their spouses Jeanette and Keith Anderson of Leesville Barbara and Jimmy Livingston of Prosperity Luther "Buster" and Lois Bowers of Saluda Wilbur Jr. and Edith Bates of Prosperity June and Tally Nichols of Leesville and Wanda and Marvin Brewer of Prosperity; two sisters Madge Blackwell of Bonds Crossroad and Georgia Outley of St. Augustine Florida; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by ten of her siblings. Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Rob White. Interment was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M Saturday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Active pallbearers were grandsons Mitchell Livingston Allen Livingston Thomas Bates Luke Brewer R.J. Tesenair Ethan Campbell Andrew Campbell Michael Nichols and Trenton Bates. The family was at the home of Wanda and Marvin Brewer 814 Mother Goose Road Prosperity SC. The family request memorials be made to J. F. Hawkins 1330 Kinard St. Newberry SC 29108 for the beautification of the Inner Court Yard that Lola so enjoyed during her stay there.
