Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home chapel. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited to visit at Park Road Baptist Church following the interment. Born March 1 1921 in Williamston SC she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Mae Jones Reese. During World War II she was a master welder and riveter at the Savannah Shipyard. After her husband retired from the U.S. Army they retired to Prosperity SC. There she was a Charter member of Park Road Baptist Church where she was very active. She was also active with Scouting and was a Red Cross volunteer. She is survived by her children Julius Earl Gabriel Jr. (Rebecca) of Pickens Mavis McLeod (Thom) of Columbia and Dennis Gabriel (Lynne) of Augusta; sisters Ruby Benjamin of Greenwood and Grace Raymond of Columbia; brother Fred Reese (Betty) of Greenwood; sister-in-law Esther Reese of Greenwood; grandchildren Julie Ray (Greg) of Greer Kimberly Stephens of Chapin and Katie Morris (Eric) of Wendell NC; and great-grandchildren Hannah Claire Macay Macenzie and Marlow. Memorials may be made to Park Road Baptist Church 360 Park Road Prosperity 29127 or to Hospice Care of Tri County 13795 C.R. Koon Highway Newberry SC 29108. Active pallbearers will be Charles Anderson Durrel Benjamin Waco Cotney Dick James John Lawson and Carey Metts.
