Lucy Nell McCullough, 99, died Monday, December 20, 2021 at White Oak Manor, Newberry.
Born on March 9, 1922 in Whitmire, she was a daughter of the late Anne Elizabeth Lee McCullough and David Leland McCullough, Sr.
She graduated from the University of South Carolina and worked for many years as an administrative assistant for Compton and Noles and later for Carolina Health Care.
Nell was a faithful member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church for as long as she was able and was the last living member of her immediate family.
She was adventurous, talented, and easy going. Nell loved to share stories of her childhood and growing up on the cotton farm. She learned how to drive at age 50 and lived by herself in Charlotte until the 1990's. She loved flowers, gardening and needlework. She especially loved tatting and crocheting and made christening gowns for many of the nieces, nephews, and their children.
She is survived by her nephews, Dwight Beheler (Phyllis), John Althaus (Becky), Tommy McCullough (Debbie) and George McCullough; nieces, Beth M. Bozard (Doug), Tina M. Swanson (Michael), and Lee Ann M. Wham(Jim); numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; and nieces-in-law, Ira Jean Harley and Elise Knox.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: William Leroy "W.L." McCullough, Albert Carol McCullough, Thomas Preston "T.P." McCullough, David Lee McCullough, Theresa McCullough, Frances M. Harley, Nalthea Mary M. Beheler; and Leila M. Althaus; and nephews, Clinton D. Harley and James W. Althaus.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Rodney Gunter, 2 PM Thursday, December 23,2021, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 1PM.
Pallbearers will be Noah Reynolds, Len McCullough, Jesse McCullough, Brendan Jensen, Hunter McCullough, and Wayne Folk.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Beth Eden Lutheran Church.
Memorials are suggested to Beth Eden Lutheran Church.
