Lucy Ann Moates, 80, of Prosperity, SC, died September 7, 2025. Born December 7, 1944, in Charleston, SC to Thomas Bacon and Ollie Ruth (Morris) Perry.

Lucy worked at the Oakland Textile Mill for thirty years prior to her retirement.

Lucy could often be found with a pen in hand, working her way through a crossword or word search, never afraid of a challenge and always delighted by words. She rarely missed the news, staying engaged with the wider world, and she never missed a birthday either —a reminder of how deeply she cared for her family.

Lucy is survived by her daughter, Amanda M. (Robert Cearley) Bouknight, Prosperity, SC; two grandchildren, Tyler (Adriane Morris) Bouknight, Breanna (Gabriel Harmon) Bouknight; former husband, James Moates, all of Newberry, SC;  brothers, Robert "Bobby" (Francelle) Perry, West Columbia, SC; James V. (Sara) Perry, Chester, SC; Danny L. (Karen) Perry, Summerville, SC; and sister-in-law, Joan Perry, Newberry, SC.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gerald Perry.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with a visitation one-hour prior beginning at 1:00 p.m.
