Luther Lawrence Rogers, Sr., 92, of Gilbert died Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Lexington Medical Center.
Mr. Rogers was born on December 22, 1925 in Jacksonville, FL and was raised by his loving grandmother, Marie Louise (Sonntag) Owens.
He was a US Army Veteran and worked 36 years with SCE&G, retiring as a senior dispatcher.
Mr. Rogers was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church in Gilbert. He was also a member of the Jamil Shrine Temple and a lifetime member of the Boyleston Masonic Lodge #123. Luther was a Life Time member of VFW Post # 641 where he previously served as quartermaster and was the only person to have served four consecutive terms as the post commander. He pioneered multiple non-profit bingo operations in SC.
He is survived by his children, Larry Rogers of Gilbert, Mike Rogers (Sheryl) of Prosperity, David Rogers (Judy) of Laurens, and Katrina Kilpatrick (Paul) of Mills River, NC; grandchildren, Beth Benzing, Brett Davis, Drew Rogers, Jody Rogers, Kayla Smith, Sabra Hand, Shannon Rogers, and Shelby Rogers; nine great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Davis of Moncks Corner.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Hadden Rogers; son, Ricky Rogers; step-son, Gregg Davis, granddaughter, Jeannie Rogers, and grandson, James Walker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 PM Monday, September 10, 2018 at Beulah United Methodist Church by Rev. Tony Rowell. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Larry Rogers, Mike Rogers, David Rogers, Shannon Rogers, Jody Rogers, and Drew Rogers.
