Major Lewis M. Lipscomb Jr. retired 72 of Springfield VA and Newberry SC died Thursday July 30 2015 at his residence in Newberry. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday August 3 2015 at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church in Newberry by the Rev. Dr. Mitchell Van Metre. Interment with military honors will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday August 2 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home. He was born on January 14 1943 in Newberry a son of the late Lewis M. Lipscomb Sr. and Margaret Shealy Lipscomb. Mr. Lipscomb was a U.S. Army Veteran having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He thoroughly enjoyed Veterans Clubs and softball. He was a member of VFW Post 7327 American Legion Post 176 Masonic Lodge 217 all of Springfield VA and was also a member of the Northern Virginia Senior Softball League. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years Floy Ann Dennis Lipscomb; siblings Anne Lipscomb Bobby Lipscomb (Debbie) and Durrett Lipscomb (Marcy); and nieces and nephews Courtney and Jay Renfrow Trey Bogue Keri Lipscomb Dalrymple (Sean) Margaret Bruce Wells (John) and Allston Lipscomb.
