Obituary

Mallie Hancock Berry, 71, died on February 20, 2016 at her home in Prosperity. Born on June 12, 1944 in Troy, NC, she was a daughter of the late Albert Hancock, Sr. and the late Nancy Miller Hancock. She worked at Fort Jackson retiring from there after 42 years of service. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Mallie was a woman with a huge heart who loved her family dearly. She was a proud grandmother who treasured being called "Grannie". She enjoyed all of the family activities shared at the lake and baking, sewing and gardening all brought her happiness. Traveling with her husband across the US also gave her joy. All of the wildlife and her pets were special to her. Mallie was a thirteen year survivor of breast cancer perhaps in part because she was a strong and opinionated woman with conservative views. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Herbert A. Berry, Sr.; children, John S. Hicks, Jr. (Missy D.) of Prosperity, James A. Hicks (Missy C.) of Elgin, Herbert A. Berry, Jr. (Sandy) of Leesville, Teresa Todd of Chapin, Michael Berry (Jennifer) of West Columbia, Shawn Branham (Robert) of West Columbia.; Sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; siblings, Marie Fox of Altamont Springs, FL, Melba Britt of Starr, NC, Rev. William Hancock of Robbins, NC, Oscar Hancock, Sr. (Mary) of McDonough, GA; Charlie Hancock of Lexington, NC and Mabel Lamonds of Seagrove, NC.
