Mamie Kathlean Perry, 72, of Silverstreet, died Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on October 22, 1947 in Whitmire, she was a daughter of the late Henry Valentine McMurtury and Mamie Estelle Chapman McMurtury.
Her working years were spent in retail management. She was previously a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church of Whitmire and currently was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church in Newberry.
Kathlean always enjoyed the opportunity to "eat out". She was a loving mother and wife and a grandmother who adored her grandchildren. They likewise adored her. Her family describes her as "the sweetest" and a woman who was always a giving, loving and caring person. She referred to her grandchildren as "Grannies Babies". She loved her great-grandchild Jerrell to the moon and back.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Roger Dale Perry; children Kathlean and Husband Rickey Davis and Rodney O. Perry all of Silverstreet; grandchildren, Korysa Perry-Davis, Kapresha Perry-Davis, Rickkya Perry-Davis and Markell Davis, Jr. all of Silverstreet; great-grandchild, Jerrell Williams; siblings, Margie Perry of Newberry, Charles and Maxine McMurtury of Cairo, GA, Tony McMurtury and Pat Seymore of Newberry and Dan McMurtury of Whitmire; and a special niece Polly Ann Scott. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Lawrence and Heyward McMurtury.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 15 at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Burial will follow the service in Mt Tabor Church Cemetery, Whitmire.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm.
