Margaret Wallace Chapman

Margaret Wallace Chapman, 84, of Newberry died Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born December 30, 1941 in Richland County, she was the daughter of the late DeLeon R. and Elizabeth Chapman Wallace.

Margaret was a graduate of Brooklyn Cayce High School. She worked for many years in the administrative office for the Country Club of Newberry and later, Matthews Automotive.

She was a person of deep faith, a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Margaret, and her husband Tony, were also founding members of the Carolinian Society in Newberry.

Margaret was an amazing cook – soup, pound cake, and Thanksgiving meals being some of her most memorable specialties. She was always doing for others, caring for them and brightening their day with a laugh or two; and she was always looking out for animals.

Her greatest enjoyment came when spending time on the golf course and at the beach. She was a member of Newberry Country Club, played in the Ladies Professional Golf Association, and made many deep and lasting friendships while enjoying the game of golf. Margaret always looked forward to her annual trips to the beach with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Jill Chapman (Charlie); son, Baird Sanders (Rosa); daughter-in-law, Jessica Draeger; grandson, Henry Chapman; brothers, DeLeon Wallace (Jane) and John “Pug” Wallace; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Tony C. Chapman, Sr., and her son, Tony C. Chapman, II.

Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Matthew Titus at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Newberry Memorial Gardens.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Dr. Bernardo and the staff of J.F. Hawkins for their care and support of Margaret and the family over the years.
