Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth Sease Jayroe of Little Mountain, SC, 94 years of age, died at her residence on Saturday evening. Mrs. Jayroe, the widow of Arthur Lecester Jayroe, Sr. was born on July 31, 1926 in Kingstree, SC. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Ralph W. Sease and his wife Beatrice "Bea" Belvin Sease. Following the death of her father, she moved to Little Mountain where she lived in the Dr. John Claude Sease home. She graduated from Little Mountain High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Winthrop College and later her Master of Education degree from the University of South Carolina. She worked with the Department of Public Welfare in Georgetown, SC and later with the Family Agency in Charleston, SC. She served Little Mountain for over eight years as the clerk-treasurer and taught school for twenty-one years, three at Newberry Academy and eighteen in the public schools of Newberry County, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the South Carolina Retired Educators Association, the National Retired Educators Association, the Newberry County Retired Teachers Association and the American Association of University Women. She was also active within community and State organizations belonging to the Newberry County Historical Society and the South Carolina Genealogical Society and served on the Newberry County Community Hall Commission. Margaret was a member of the Little Mountain Order of the Eastern Star #276. Mrs. Jayroe was baptized and confirmed into Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where she held membership all of her life, participating and teaching in many of the church organizations. In 1962, she began serving as Cooperative Weather Observer, performing the job for the National Weather Service begun by her family in 1893. Margaret was a very independent lady but she was kind and gracious with her independence. Survivors include her son Arthur Lecester Jayroe, Jr. and wife Jana of Little Mountain; two grandchildren, James Arthur Jayroe and wife Victoria of Chapin and Susannah Katherine "Kate" Jayroe of the Dr. John Claude Sease home in Little Mountain, one niece and three nephews, Dr. Charles Sease Hill, Dr. Karen Hill Hallmark, The Rev. Ralph Gullord Hill, and Christopher Belvin Hill. She was predeceased by her sister, Belvin Sease Hill. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 22, 2021 in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery Conducted by the Rev. Brett Collins and the Rev. Ralph Hill. The family will receive friends following the service in the Trinity Life Center. Memorials are suggested to the Dutch Fork Genealogical Society at 16 Depot Street in Little Mountain.
