Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth Truesdale Kurtz, 75, of Newberry passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Lexington Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Fairfield County, she was the daughter of William Moultrie and Bettie M. Rutland Truesdale, Sr.

Margaret began her work career in Columbia, SC as legal secretary to Kirkman Finlay, Jr., Esquire. In 1973, she joined employment with the U.S. District Court as Supervisor in their Clerks Office. Later, becoming Financial Administrator before moving to Maine in 1992.

She will be remembered for many things and among these are; her beautiful soprano voice and through the years singing with several community choirs, her mentoring volunteer work with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina, her two hour phone "visits", surprise Christmas Eve visits delivering Christmas gifts to their beloved family and showering her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nephews with gifts. She loved her fur babies, visits and phone calls from her family, decorating for the holidays and snow.

Upon her husband's retirement, their love of snow and the cooler climate prompted them to move to Portland, Maine where they filled the role of tour guide for visiting family and friends of the area's beautiful coastline. Their fur babies came first and after several years of bundling Cassie and Pandie for the snowy, rainy winters decided to move closer to family and friends and chose the Asheville, NC area for it's beautiful mountain scenery and greater opportunity for snow than it's neighboring South Carolina. In Fletcher, they continued their hospitality role and could plan your best get away visits; enjoying area parks, rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway, tours of Biltmore, memorable musical concerts and ballets.

In April of 2019, she and Ed made the decision for yet another move. This time moving closer to family where they lived in independent living at Springfield Place in Newberry, South Carolina. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Asheville, NC.

She is survived by two brothers, William M. Truesdale, Jr. (Susan), and Darryl W. Truesdale (Melinda); two sisters, Sheila C. Truesdale (Pat), and Rhonda T. Johnson (Jamie); and many loving nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncle and cousins.

In addition to her father, Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Edward Ronald Kurtz, and niece, Liza Johnson.

A Memorial Reception of friends and family will be held at 2:00 on November 19, at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Winnsboro Fellowship Hall, located at 691 Columbia Road, Winnsboro.
