Margaret Riles Epting, 78, more lovingly known as "Peggy," was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. She passed peacefully surrounded by family.
She was an amazing Mother, Grandmother, and friend and will forever be remembered for her fun loving, humorous, compassionate, and intelligent nature.
Born October 14, 1943, Ms Epting was the daughter of Hazel Vinson Riles and Janie Hussey Riles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Wendy Marie Epting and sister Barbara Riles Rauch. She will be dearly missed by her twin daughters, Tracy Epting Widener (William Gildner) and Stacy Epting Currie of Chapin; her brother, Richard H. Riles of West Columbia; grandsons, Conner Epting Watson, (Anastasia) of Lexington and Justin Townsend Widener (Kaytie) of Charleston; granddaughters, Madison Brook Widener (Banks Harmon) of Chapin, Isabella Marie Currie of Chapin, MacKenzie Jane Currie of Oklahoma; and one great granddaughter Penelope Rose Watson of Lexington.
Peggy moved to Chapin, SC with her family in 1966 and fell in love with the small town atmosphere and friendly people. She was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church and served on the church council, the Worship and Music Committee, and was a communion assistant and lay reader.
She attended Brookland-Cayce High School and was a graduate of both Midlands Technical College and Columbia College. She was an employee of the state of South Carolina, working at the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control for over 41 years. She enjoyed her job and found such pleasure in working with and getting to know so many people. Peggy was a Christian woman who enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Affectionately known as "Gma," she especially cherished the special relationship she had with all her grandchildren, and loved all her grand dogs.
Per Ms. Epting's wishes, a visitation will be held prior to the Memorial Service at Whitaker Funeral Home-Chapin Chapel on January 14, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Following the memorial service which begins at 11 AM, committal services will be held at Mt Horeb Lutheran Church Cemetery in Chapin, SC.
