Margie Phibbs Smith 85 of Newberry died Thursday June 30 2011 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Born in Newberry County on October 22 1925 she was a daughter of the late James H. and Rosa Crapps Phibbs. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law John W. Jr. and Kitty Smith of Lexington; brother James Phibbs II of Newberry; grandchildren Dean (Tammy) Smith and Sharon Smith all of Lexington; and a great-grandson Cameron Smith. She was predeceased by her husband John W. Smith Sr. and brothers Charles Phibbs and Alfred Phibbs. Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rodney Gunter. Burial was at Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family was at the residence and invite family and friends to visit. Pallbearers were nephews and special friends.
