Obituary

Marian Jenkins Hicks Widner, 83, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018. Born January 11, 1935, in Allendale, South Carolina, she was the youngest child (and one of The 10) of James Young Hicks and Alice Eulalie Wall Hicks. She grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, surrounded by the love of her nine siblings and their spouses and children. In 1954, she met and married a handsome sailor, George Henry Widner. For 61 years, they built a wonderful life together, until his death in 2015. Faith, family, and hard work were the cornerstones of their life. Marian was a devoted and beloved sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was an accomplished painter, and her creativity could be seen in every aspect of her life. She was an active member of Chapin United Methodist Church. Predeceased by her precious daughter, Gretchen Widner, and her beloved husband, George Widner, Marian is survived by her son, Dennis Widner (Elizabeth); her daughter, Gail Widner; her four grandchildren, Nicholas Emory Widner, Sarah Widner Hamby (Jonathan), Hannah Elyce Widner, and George Widner Smith; two great grandchildren, Aidynn Hamby and Keagan Hamby; two sisters, Dolores Manning (Robert) and her twin sister, Marie Inabinett (Raymond); and many nieces (including her favorite niece) and nephews who loved her deeply. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to Chapin United Methodist Church, PO Box 237, Chapin, SC 29036. According to her wishes, a graveside service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapin United Methodist Church Cemetery, 415 Lexington Ave., Chapin, SC.
