Martha Alverta Moates Bright 73 of 1035 Mt. Bethel Garmany Road Newberry died Wednesday May 25 2011 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 29 1937 in Laurens County a daughter of the late Wyatt and Addie Morgan Moates. Mrs. Bright was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing at her home and spending time with her family. Mrs. Bright is survived by her daughter Barbara Spells Goins; son Robert T. Spells; step-daughters Renee Bright and Barbara Gonzalez; step-son Junior Bright; brothers Otis Moates and ODell Moates; grandchildren Chris (Tonya) Spells Kevin (Christin) Spells and Jessica Goins (fiance Josh Harris) and five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren eight step-great-grandchildren and first husband Isadore Spells. She was predeceased by her husband Grover C. Bright; and brothers W.L. Moates Paul Moates Horace Moates and George Moates. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by Chaplain James Cuttino Jr. Interment did follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The family did receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry. The family will be at the residence at 1035 Mt. Bethel Garmany Road Newberry. Active pallbearers were Josh Harris Chris Spells Kevin Spells John Livingston J.P. Livingston Scott Evans and Wyatt Moates. Honorary pallbearers were the nurses and staff of Hospice Care of the Tri-County. The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Care of the Tri-County 13795 C.R.
