Martha Hendrix Bowers 101, of Silverstreet, SC died Friday, November 10, 2023 at her residence.
Mrs. Bowers was born on July 26, 1922 in Newberry County, SC a daughter of the late Marcus Boyd Hendrix and Eula Lee Pitts Hendrix. She grew up in the Silverstreet area of Newberry County, attended the Newberry County schools and following high school graduation she received her cosmetology degree. She was the owner and operator of Gay Beauty Shop.
Most of her lifetime, she was a faithful member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church where she participated in many activities of the church - sang in the choir, taught catechism, served as a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed being a part of the Women of the ELCA. She was a former member of the Home Demonstration Club and an active supporter of PTO during her children's school years.
Mrs. Bowers and her husband were not only loving parents to their children, they also opened their home to numerous others over the years. She is survived by her daughters, Loxie B. Hazel of Silverstreet, Jan B. Piersol (George) of Silverstreet and Gaye B. Siler (Dr. Tom) of Irmo; grandchildren, Ashley Rowe (Jane), Jammie Hazel, Lori Parker (Michael); Jay Piersol (Lindsay), Nick Piersol (Jessica), Josh Piersol (Kimberly), Hali S. Hendricks (Tim) and Ethan Siler (Becca); granddaughter-in-law, Janesca Hazel; great grandchildren, Alex Hazel, Patrick Rowe, Sloan Hazel, Ryan Brown, Jackson Parker, Hunter Piersol, Olivia Piersol, Harper Piersol, Cooper Piersol, Peyton Piersol, Tristan Piersol, John Harold Piersol, Emma Jewel Piersol, Bowers Siler, Sutton Gray Siler, Abigail Hendricks, and Trace Hendricks; siblings, Fronie Chaney of Greenwood and Boyd Hendrix of Newberry; and special daughters, Dollie Bozard and Suzanne Shealy.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Hamilton Bowers, Jr; and siblings, Mae Wiehrs, Clarence Dennis, Corine Merritt, Lillian Bouknight, Harold Hendrix, Leora Walker, and Betty Willingham; son-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Hazel; and grandson, Scott Hazel.
Funeral services will be held 3PM, Tuesday, November 21, 2023 in Silverstreet Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. John Stoudemayer. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 from 1 pm to 6 pm at the Piersol Residence, 80 Lake Street, Silverstreet, SC 29145.
The family suggests memorials be made to Silverstreet Lutheran Church, 120 Church Street

Pallbearers will be Jay Piersol, Nick Piersol, Josh Piersol, Ashley Rowe, Patrick Rowe, Sloan Hazel, Ethan Siler, and Mike Parker.
