Martha Alvoid Brooker, age 87, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. Born on March 14, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Rollin Oscar Alvoid. She was married to and divorced from the late David Brown Brooker, Sr. Martha was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church in Columbia, SC. She taught special education classes at Timmerman Middle School for many years. Martha served terms as president of the Columbia Women's Club, the Junior Women's Club, the South Carolina Kidney Foundation and the Women's Jaycees. She was a member of the Optimist Club and the South Carolina Shag Club. She served as a Cub Scout Mother and a Brownie Scout Mother. She leaves a daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Brooker and her husband, Owen M. Holmes, IV; a son, Douglas Cameron Brooker; a grandson, Dakoda B. Brooker; a niece, Patricia Alvoid Mucalvaney; a nephew, Rollin Oscar Alvoid, III; and a grandniece, Jennifer Mucalvaney. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Rollin Oscar Alvoid, Jr. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on March 14th at Washington Street United Methodist Church, 1401 Washington Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
