Martha Caroline Bouknight 88 formerly of 1803 Nance St Newberry died Monday March 15 2004 at The Haven in the Summit in Columbia. Miss Bouknight was born on August 21 1915 in Newberry County a daughter of the late Rev. William R. and Mattie Buzhardt Bouknight. She graduated Lander College and taught third grade for many years in Newberry County. She was a member of the Newberry County the South Carolina and the National Retired Teachers Associations and the Newberry Historical Society. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church the Ezell Bible Class and the United Methodist Women Circle #1. Miss Bouknight was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Miss Bouknight is survived by five nieces Anita Franklin of Columbia Dr. Barbara A. Derrick and Dr. Martha N. Bouknight both of Summerville Betty Kendrick of Lexington and Marie B. Allen of Alexandria VA; five nephews Rev. Dr. W. R. Bouknight III of Memphis TN Joe C. Bouknight of Danville VA J. A. Bouknight Jr. of Washington D.C. Dr. James G. Bouknight of Columbia and Dr. Frank H. Bouknight of Summerville. Funeral services for Martha C. Bouknight will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Friday at Central United Methodist Church by Rev. John Miller and Rev. Dr. W.R. Bouknight III. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. Friday at Henry Hall at Central United Methodist Church.
