Obituary

Martha Stockman Cromer, 96, formerly of 2222 Wilson Road, Newberry, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Mrs. Cromer was born on July 1, 1919 in Newberry County, a daughter of the late Patrick and Lillie Mills Stockman. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Cromer was a humble and kind lady who was always grateful for any kindness done on her behalf. She loved her family and friends and especially loved sharing time with them at the lake home. She also enjoyed gardening, growing both flowers and vegetables. Mrs. Cromer is survived by her children and their spouses, Patsy C. and John Raymond Miller of Newberry and W. Larry and Rita Cromer of Newberry; granddaughters and their spouses, Paige and David Nichols and Leah and Will Blackmon; great-grandchildren, Ben Blackmon, Cole Nichols, and Alec Blackmon; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, William A. Cromer; grandchildren, William Alan Cromer and Bradford Jevon Miller and siblings, Ruby Bouknight, Helen Folk, Dorothy Bogan, and Andrew Stockman. The family will be at the home of Patsy and John Raymond Miller, 1610 Whitener Rd., Newberry and will receive friends on Wednesday, April 6 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 8 at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tresco Shannon officiating. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Johnny Clowney, Steve Bogan, James Mack, Frank Hamm, Donald Bouknight, Jamie Mack , Brett Hamm, and Chris Bouknight. A special thank you is extended to his devoted care givers, Mary Ruff and Alfreda Price and to the staff of Unit 1 at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home. The family suggests memorials to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 67 Newberry, SC 29108 or to Summer Memorial Lutheran Church, Building Maintenance Fund, 1609 Milligan St., Newberry, SC 29108.
