Martha Arlene Green Broderick

Martha Arlene Green Broderick, age 82 of Chappells, died Friday, September 25, 2026 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Born August 5, 1944 in Newberry, SC, she was a daughter of the late Paul Allen, Sr. and Verdie Ernestine Green. She was married for 44 years to Jimmy Edward Broderick.

Martha was a loving and kind person whose greatest joy came from loving her family. She could be tough when she needed to be, but will be remembered as someone who gave of herself to take care of those she loved, especially her grandchildren and her dogs and cats.

She was a gifted seamstress. She and Jimmy reupholstered multiple classic cars. Her family will best remember her quilting, having made quilts for every family member. These quilts were often “customized” for the taller family members, making sure their head and feet could be covered. Her quilts weren’t for display though, they were for enjoying and keeping warm.

Martha was a person of faith, attending church all of her life. Her life verse was Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

In addition to her husband, Martha is survived by her daughters, Ilene (Jeff) Connelley of Gray Court, Melissa (Timmy) Adkins of Leesville, and Carmen Clark of Waterloo; a brother, George Green of Olanta; grandchildren J. Adam Connelley, Joseph Connelley, Dalton Davenport, Zakk Davenport, Thomas Connelley, Jori Garland, and Jonathan Dunn; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Rebecca Smith, Leona Thompson, and Paulette Jackson; a brother, Paul Allen “Buddy” Green, Jr; and an infant grandson.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, October 1, 2026, 2:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Newberry. Bishop Tye Campbell will preside and Brother Allen Reid will conduct the services.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.
