IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha Louise
Harmon
July 1, 1942 – October 25, 2025
Martha Louise Harmon, of Newberry, South Carolina, died on October 25th, 2025. She was born in Augusta, Georgia, on July 1st, 1942, to the late Drayton M. and Louise G. Harmon.
Empathetic and selfless, Martha enjoyed caring for others - both humans and animals. She dedicated over 30 years to nursing. She worked at the Whitten Center in Clinton, South Carolina, Self Regional Medical Center, and Wesley Commons, both in Greenwood, South Carolina. Martha loved all animals. She even owned a horse at one point. However, cats always held a special place in her heart, as she had many feline friends throughout her life.
In her free time, Martha was a devoted Trekkie; she loved going to conventions and even went on a Star Trek cruise. Being a lifelong avid reader, she adored spending her time reading – but Sherlock Holmes was always her favorite. Martha also had a gift for knitting; her family still marvels at the afghans and baby blankets she made for them.
She is survived by her sister Joyce H. (Rev. Bruce) Palmer, of Newberry, South Carolina; her nephew, Joe (Marguerite) Palmer, of Newberry, South Carolina; and her niece, Rachael (Jamieson) Gallagher, of Reno, Nevada.
To honor Martha's compassionate nature, memorial contributions in her memory may be made out to Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212.
Memories and messages may be left on her tribute wall.
Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Martha Harmon.
