Born on July 24, 1947, in Newberry, South Carolina, Mary Anne “Bunny” Chappell was the youngest daughter of the late Adolpho Raymond and Mary Frances Woodle Chappell. Bunny graduated from the University of South Carolina and dedicated her life to helping others with compassion and care as a Registered Nurse. Bunny began her career in the emergency department, and over her meaningful career, she provided care across many specialties, including labor and delivery, medical-surgical, psychiatric care, nursing home, home health and hospice. She devoted her life to helping others.
Bunny had a love for animals and found great joy in the company of birds, fish, cats, and dogs. She was known for accepting any stray animal into her home. She loved writing poetry in her free time and inspired others to chase their love of the written art form, especially her niece Melissa Chappell. She enjoyed researching history and studying other cultures, purely for her own enjoyment. Bunny loved her family holidays and playing with her grandchildren. Her adventurous spirit included parasailing at the age of 67 with her daughters, at her request.
Surviving are her beloved daughters, Helen Livingston (Chris) Horan of Lutz, Florida, and Ashley Krevet (Marc) Lynn of Lexington, South Carolina; grandchildren, Dylan Horan, Connor Horan, Kiersten Lynn and Meredith Lynn; great granddaughter Kathryn Lynn; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Clare Chappell White, and her brother, Michael Chase Chappell.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Generations of Irmo for their love, compassion and care of Bunny.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Memories and messages may be shared on her tribute wall.
