Mary Dorothy Bergman, 95, of Chapin, SC passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024 at the home of her daughter Sue Thomas. Mary was a native of Clarendon Hills, Illinois and moved to Chapin seven months ago to live with her daughter. Mary retired as a Buyer after a long career with Marshall Fields Department Stores where she filled many roles for the company. She often said the best thing she got from Marshall Fields was her husband, William (Bill) Bergman, who she met while working there.  In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, reading, and gathering with her family for any occasion.

She is survived by her son Mark (Sharon) Bergman; daughter Sue (Dale) Thomas; sister Dolores Stefiuk;

grandchildren Alec Bergman, Joe Bergman; Tamara (Deny) Markovik, Crystal Haltiwanger (Wes) and Kathy Thomas; great grandchildren Luca and Noah Markovik, Krystal (JT) Ashley, McKenzie Thomas, Jacob Ramsey, and Kendall Ramsey; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Bergman and her parents Jack and Evelyn MacDonald.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, April 5 from 5-7 PM at Modell Funeral Home 7710 S. Cass Avenue, Darien.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation in her name to the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the South Carolina Hospice nurses who compassionately cared for Mary during this difficult time.
