Obituary

Mary Watkins Counts, 84, of Lexington died Sunday, March 9, 2020 at the Lexington Medical Center. Born on May 30, 1935 in Chappells, SC, she was the daughter of the late Irwin Quattlebaum "I.Q." and Daisy Clark Watkins. Mary was married to Richard Epting "Dick" Counts, Sr. who predeceased her. Mrs. Counts was a member of Lutheran Church of Our savior in Greenville where she faithfully attended as long as her health allowed. Blessed with a caring heart and great disposition, she was a friend to many during her lifetime. In her later years she became known as "Sweet Mary", a name given to her by caregivers. Survivors include her children, Richard E. "Rick" Counts, Jr. (Missy) of Lexington, Katherine Henderson and Robin E. Counts (Denise) of Simpsonville; and grandchildren, Hunter Counts, of Lexington, and Lydia Henderson. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister Irvie "Buddy" Milner. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel in Newberry conducted by the Rev. Matthew Titus. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home from 2:00 until 3:00 pm.
