Mary Deane "Deanie" Weldon, 92, of Chapin, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, September 26, 2022. Deanie was born on February 16, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Gertrude and Hal Stevens of Loris, SC.

Deanie was a graduate of Limestone College where she was elected to be the Homecoming Queen. She was married to her husband, the late Richard (Dick) Weldon, for 70 years. She taught school for over 35 years in Bamberg, Columbia, and Chapin. Deanie dearly loved her family, especially her three sons and all five of her grandchildren. She also loved cooking, entertaining, socializing with her friends, traveling with her husband, and most of all she loved her South Carolina beaches. Deanie was a longtime member of Chapin United Methodist Church and a member of their Ladies Circle group.

She is survived by sons, Steve (Debra) of Brentwood, TN and John (Terry) of Chapin; grandchildren, Dean Weldon of Orlando, FL, Lindsay Weldon of Brentwood, TN, Coleman Weldon of W. Columbia, Sommer Grace Higginbotham (Patrick) of Nolensville, TN, and Benjamin Weldon of Florence; as well as Joanna Weldon of Florence, Cathy Weldon of Irmo, Monica Currie of Loris; and a special friend, Bonnie Derrick of Chapin.

The family sincerely thanks Deanie's caregivers, Bertha, Sylvia, Rita, and Martha.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Dicky Weldon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 3 at Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College St., Newberry, SC with visitation prior to the service at 1:00 PM.

Graveside services will be held immediately following the funeral service at Chapin United Methodist Church Cemetery, 415 Lexington Ave., Chapin, SC 29036.
