Mary Ellen Taylor Dowd 94 of 1708 Clarkson Ave. Newberry widow of Chief Colie L. Dowd died Saturday March 20 2004 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.Mrs. Dowd was born on October 3 1909 in Prosperity a daughter of the late Dudley F. and Agnes Dominick Taylor. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer the Cromer Hipp Sunday School Class; the WELCA and the Newberry Chapter Order of the Eastern Star 226.Mrs. Dowd is survived by a daughter Katherine D. Dawkins of Newberry; a brother and sister-in-law Ralph E. and Betty Taylor of Griffin GA; five grandchildren and spouses Janis and Clarence Purvis Candace Taylor Michael D. and Pegi Taylor Mark Taylor and Matthew D. and Vicki Taylor; seven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and a special friend Val Tyska.Funeral services for Mary Ellen Dowd will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Steven Counts. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M.
