Annie Mary Buist Franklin, 93 years of age, died on Friday, April 16, 2021 at her son's residence in Newberry.
Born on November 4, 1927 in Kershaw at the home of her maternal grandmother, she was the only daughter of Samuel Izlar and Mary Louise Hamel Buist.
During her youth, she lived in Blackville, Charleston and Macon, GA but primarily in Greenwood where she graduated from Greenwood High School and attended Lander College. She held fond memories of spending summers at Camp Merrie-Wood in Sapphire, NC and even fonder memories of times spent relaxing with family at Holman's Bridge on the Edisto River.
She married Gus Brock Franklin of Newberry on September 15, 1946, and moved to Newberry where she lived for the rest of her life. She was a homemaker and a former employee of B.C. Moore & Sons, having enjoyed working in the department store for 25 years. Gus and Mary were happily married for 54 years until his death in 2001. She made her home with her son George and his family since 2002.
Mary is survived by four sons, Gus B. Franklin,Jr. (Betty), James B. Franklin (Gloria), J. Henry Franklin, and George E. Franklin (Donna); grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years, she was affectionately known as Nanny to many of her grandchildren's friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her only sibling, Samuel Izlar Buist, and her daughter-in-law, Crystal Moore Franklin.
She was a woman of exemplary faith. She was baptized and raised a Methodist. Upon her marriage she joined the Lutheran Church, was a member of Beth-Eden Lutheran Church, a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, and then a member of The Lutheran Church of The Redeemer for over 40 years.
Funeral services for Mary Franklin will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, April 18, at The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer with burial following in Rosemont Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday, from 2:30 – 3:30 PM in The Family Life Center of the church.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Bowers, Ben Bowers and Huger Caughman, Jr.
